Program Title: Diversity and Inclusion for Entrepreneurs and Business Leaders

Program Date: 08 August 2020

Program Location: ONLINE via ZOOM Meeting

Description:

In a globally connected business environment, It is about empowering people by respecting and appreciating what makes them different, in terms of age, gender, ethnicity, religion, disability, sexual orientation, education, and national origin. Diversity allows for the exploration of these differences in a safe, positive, and nurturing environment.

Diversity and inclusion (D&I) is more than policies, programs, or headcounts. Equitable employers outpace their competitors by respecting the unique needs, perspectives and potential of all their team members. As a result, diverse and inclusive workplaces earn deeper trust and more commitment from their employees.

A diverse and inclusive workforce helps businesses avoid high employee turnover costs. Diversity fosters a more creative and innovation driven workforce. Diversity in the workplace is necessary to create a competitive economy in a globalized world. Diversity in the boardroom is needed to leverage a company's full potential.

We know that by valuing diversity, it allows businesses to deliver and connect with a wider range of customers. It also engages employees by allowing them to bring different ideas, suggestions and solutions to the workplace. Embracing workplace diversity involves recognising the true value of individual differences in people and positively embracing, harnessing and supporting these characteristics to achieve individual and organisational benefit to build a supportive workplace culture.

It was once considered to relate only to racial and gender equality. Nowadays, a broader and more proactive interpretation considers the benefits that an organization can enjoy through the inclusion of a wide variety of people from different backgrounds, subgroups, and subcultures.

Diversity in the workplace is about embracing and building on differences, and similarities, to enable growth.

This learning path highlights the benefits of being part of a diverse workplace where diversity is embraced, as well as the barriers that must be overcome in order to create such an environment.

It  suggests strategies to help the individual become more aware of their own attitudes toward diversity, accepting of diverse cultures, people and ideas, and to become an advocate for diversity within the workplace by promoting it whenever possible.
